How to Perform Ghusl: The Full Ritual Bath Step by Step

How to perform ghusl (ritual bath) step by step, its obligatory acts and when ghusl is required.

This guide follows the Hanafi school. The Mubarly app shows it for all four schools.

Steps

  1. The Fard Acts of Ghusl (Hanafi)

There are three: washing the mouth, the nose and the whole body so that no dry spot remains.

  2. Intention and Basmalah

One makes the intention for ghusl in the heart and says the Basmalah.

  3. Wudu as for Prayer

Wudu is made just as it is for prayer.

  4. Mouth and Nose (fard)

Plenty of water is taken into the mouth and swirled so that it reaches every part; water is drawn into the nose and blown out.

  5. Washing the Whole Body (fard)

Water is poured three times each over the head, then the right shoulder, then the left shoulder, and the body is rubbed.
